I was informed today by a worker at this site that a residential tower will rise on this huge lot which has been empty for years. This is great news, as this empty asphalt lot was a major eye sore.
Soil samples were being taken a few weeks ago, and I guess that the results were positive. I assume that this building will also get Liberty Bond financing. |

I remember walking by that spot about a year ago. I recall being very surprised that there are empty lots remaining downtown. It's great that it is being built out.

So this is a NEW tower, as in, not the Gold St. and Liberty towers already going up around there? Nice. Wonder what the chances are for a glass beaut and not a brick run-of-the-miller?

By the way, they're removing the chain link fence that has surrounded the William Street lot for years. I bet that they're about to put up the scaffolding and that excavation will start soon! |

2 Gold St looks surprisingly good for a brick residential building.
On the other hand, 10 Liberty looks like crap. |

2 Gold is having an impact. It is visible from Brooklyn and it peaks out on the skyline when viewed from West Street. It was at 37 floors when I last saw it (last week). Fourteen more floors and it should break out on the skyline!

I'm curious to see the design for the new tower on William and Exchange. It's a huge site!

I am too. It's got tough shoes to fill in that unusual five-way intersection of classic buildings.

Isn't it only supposed to be 30 something storeys?
Blah. |

Interesting. Since it's such a huge lot, I hope that they include a landscaped public plaza with a waterfall or something like that. 10 Liberty Plaza is supposedly doing so.
