The Food Emporium building on the South-East corner of Ninth Avenue and 55th Street was recently demolished. The site is located just across the street from the construction site of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. Anyone knows what's going on?

I think the building your talking about is 400 West 55th Street. It will be 18 stories.

The action involves the construction and financing for an 18-story residential housing building comprising 149 rental units and 16,400 square feet of commercial space. The project is located at 400 West 55th Street (Manhattan, NYC).

Everyone's gonna laugh at this, but I remember when the NW corner of 9th and 55th was the Unitel Studio - I saw an episode of "Don't Just Sit There" filmed in 1989! The Food Emporium across the street was an A & P at the time.

How things have changed! Alvin Ailey will have a great exterior and be wonderful for the neighborhood. Now we got an 18 story building popping up across the street. In fact, I just took a walk up 9th Ave. from the bust terminl not that long ago. The thing I noticed the most was the AOL-TW project. It towers over the whole area!

According to recent fashion, the building is named Nicole, joining Marc and Helena in Midtown West.
