Pier 97 was used for New York City Department of Sanitation truck parking until March 2011.

In the future, Pier 97 will become part of Clinton Cove Park. The newly renovated Pier 97 anticipates a 2013 public opening and will include basketball and handball courts, a skate park, playgrounds, shaded picnic tables, floating docks, historic ship moorings, and a water taxi stop for Park visitors and daily commuters.
