Thanks. Have you been by Extell's 58th St. properties? Is anything happening there ever since they spray-painted the X's on the facades?

    Default 8th floor

Well, things are really taking off now:
There are at least 4 elevators running on this side alone.
I don't know what the blue scaffolding is, but I'll bet its a lift to pump up concrete.
This floor is almost ready to pour and it has taken only two days to set up.
Since one assumes that the floors will be nearly identical from here up, I'll bet they'll get even faster.
I wonder how long it'll take them to start hanging the curtain walls.

From that angle, the shape looks exactly like the rendering.

So much for holding out hope that it wouldn't be.

    I was right again!

Although, I would have been happier if I was wrong.

    Excerpt http://wirednewyork.com/forum/showpo...72&postcount=5

But at the Council, all were shocked to learn about the secret sale of a property it had just approved for condemnation.

"It's very surprising," said Councilwoman Christine Quinn, who took part in marathon talks with City Hall over the Hudson Yards plan. "When you don't make complete disclosures, for any reason, it raises questions."

Ross recently built the giant Time Warner headquarters at Columbus Circle. His side wouldn't confirm plans to build a 60-story skyscraper.

Jeff Blau, Ross' second in command, would say only that it will be a "mixed use" commercial and residential structure.

Given the close relationship between Doctoroff, the city's economic development czar, and Ross, it's natural to ask if the deputy mayor had anything to do with the transaction.

Doctoroff, once a co-owner of the New York Islanders with Ross, did not return calls for comment.

Thanks for the info, Infoshare! Ross, like Macklowe, et al, is reprehensible scum.

I'm sorry, but this is completely ridiculous.

He isn't "guilty" of anything; guilt is only used in the criminal arena, not the civil arena. Are you referring to some sort of obtuse liability?

And "crony capitalism" is just political-speak for "people in the public sphere need to develop relationships with governmental entities which have the power to regulate the public sphere".

There is nothing "wrong" with cultivating these relationships; in fact, they are entirely essential to the conducting of business.

The only person(s) who, in your view, wouldn't be guilty of "crony capitalism" would be those that have no business with public entities in the first place. Everyone else, from a union, to a developer, to a nonprofit, has to utilize existing relationships to keep moving forward. To reject this would be to go out of business.

So, short of some sort of Chinese dictatorship, there is no way to shield the "public" from governmental decision-making.

We have to draw the line somewhere: there are blatant 'conflict of interest' issues involved in this dodgy real estate transaction - no one is actually 'guilty' in the legal sense, it is just a matter sleazy back room political self-dealing.
Quote - "The city had quietly decided last fall to sell it to one of this town's biggest real estate developers, Stephen Ross, for the price of a song: $100,000."

I do not want to condem Ross/Related to legal "guilt" : but do wish to highlight what has already been publicly stated about this undoubtedly questionable transaction.

    From Curbed:

The Related Companies told us that leaked renderings of its 59-story tower at 440 West 42nd Street in Hell's Kitchen weren't accurate, but we're starting to doubt those claims. Cladding is now going up on the Arquitectonica- and SLCE-designed full-block tower (which will have condos and rentals) that matches those renderings. Slabs of sandstoney panels have been attached to the base along 41st and 42nd Streets, echoing the buff-toned brick seen across the street at the infamous Zebra Tower. Above the four-story base, where Frank Gehry is designing spaces for the Signature Theater Company, another seven stories have gone up. There's no glass up yet, so whether the neighborhood will get another tin-can special or something more interesting remains to be seen.
