I think it's hard to get the shimmering-metal-effect across with a few lousy internet-article-size renderings.

Gehry seems to usually pick lustrous, expressive metals for his buildings. Not only that, but with intellectually stimulating design...

Disney & Bilbao

With the entire building clad in this... with all the recesses and protrusions... the angles of lighting through the day should make it quite an interesting sight, even for locals who get to see it out their window. I think they'll consider it a piece of art. Basically everything Gehry makes is museum-quality art that also happens to be a functional building...

I think it'll be amazing.

Or, at least it'll look better than that apartment complex next to the Woolworth.

That about sums it up. Sometimes --due to workmanship or other problems-- they don't quite come off (Seattle, Germany), but I doubt that'll be the case here in such a prominent location.

I have a vision of a soaring tower with art-deco massing, with a flowing metal fascade that will absolutley shimmer and shine at sunrise and sunset. The contrast in height and materials with its older neighbors will be other-worldy.

I don't know whether you are pathologically obsessive, or are perseverating. The latter is a medical emergency and requires immediate care by a neurosurgeon. The former can be treated with medication and behavioral therapy.

Childs sucks and crowns rule. We get it already.

Hey buddy that was uncalled for I was agreeing with someone else's post.

Now it seems like my posts are having a pretty deep impact in you where you are going out of your way to commenting about em. I think you gotta find other reasons to make posts besides trying to insult people. Unless, this is making you feel a little better about yourself in some way and it brings up your self esteem to put other people down. If that is the case then I am for making other people feel better about themselves even at my expense and you can insult me all you want, OK.

Agreed. It will be an amazing structure, lightyears better than the parking lot that is there.

Default It's go time!!

Well, it's a parking lot no longer.

Step 1 when building on a parking lot: Get rid of the cars.

I agree. This is good news. I walked by there last week and was disappointed to see a full parking lot.

I walked by at lunch time on October 4, 2006, and boarding has been erected around the periphery of the lot. More inportantly, construction equipment is on site and is digging up the asphalt as we speak.

What would be better news is if they said that the design will be changed.
A melted wedding cake is not very pretty.

Pssst...hey Ratner, take off those thick glasses.

This is better

than this
