Default Tseung Kwan O and Co-op City

I live in Tseung Kwan O. It's a new town on the eastern part of The New Territories. The town has a resemblance to New York's Co-op city from location, buildings, shopping areas, etc. Anyway, what do you guys think? Does Tseung Kwan O and Co-op City have any resemblance. Here are some photos of Tseung Kwan O.

Le Corbusier would be totally stoked!!

Must be interesting to live there Supremo. I spent a week once in the Chung-King Mansions in Hong Kong. Very cool indeed.

Co-op City is in the Bronx. Unfortunately, it has recently acquired a reputation as a crumbling blue-collar enclave. Is that also the case with the Hong Kong development?

Considering that from those photos Tseung Kwan O is still growing, I personally doubt it.

I hate Co-Op City. The architecture is bad and typical crud from that era. Most of the people who moved there came from neighborhoods in the present-day South Bronx that eventually declined to the condition they were in in 1977. It was a long climb up from that low, and all the damage has not been repaired yet.

Living in TKO is ok. It's more quiet here compared to the city center. But I rather spend a day in the city than here though there are nice shopping areas. It only takes 30 mins by MTR to the city. The only thing is that, you live in the 19th floor but you have a nice view of the ocean. Also, the living space is small compared to Manila (where I originally came from). I think New Yorkers have bigger spaces in their flats compared to Hong Kongers.

Most flats in Tseung Kwan O are government subsidized housing estates. So most residents are lower-middle class or have blue collared-jobs. The Hong Kong Housing Authority runs most of the HK's housing estates including those in TKO. But compared with housing estates in other countries, the ones in HK (and Singapore) are in better condition. There are a few private-owned flats or developments. Despite this, crime is very low in TKO.

By the way, I'm flying to New York this Christmas but I'll be staying in New Jersey

I haven't heard any news on Co-op city, but I think the conditions in that area is improving.
