Default Gotham Center - Long Island City - Queens

So now that I have actual photos, and the building(s) is(are) truly under construction looking, I think it's separate thread time for this monster. Just as a quick reminder, here's the only render seemingly ever (thanks curbed):

From all of the press releases, it looks like they are starting with the 21 story building on the right (the one the DYCDOH is committed to renting). If that's the case, then the first render is set facing the site from just past the Queensboro Plaza station.

And here's some photos from Thursday evening:

Crane TBD:

And a photo care of liqCity from June 4th to gauge progress:

Default False advertising

Shouldn't they at least somewhat employ the archtiectural style they name themselves after in the buildings design?
Where are the gothic elements??????

In this case they should have named it as it is: "Typically Unimaginitive Modernist Center"

Goth⋅am

–noun 1. a journalistic nickname for New York City. 2. an English village, proverbial for the foolishness of its inhabitants.

Washington Irving foresaw WNY

Quote:
Irving refers to New York City as Gotham throughout ''Salmagundi'':

''Oh! Gotham, Gotham! most enlightened of cities! - how does my heart swell with delight when I be-hold your sapient inhabitants lavishing their attention with such wonderful discernment!''

Have any tenants signed on? I don't see how speculative construction can proceed in this market.

Yes, the NYC Department of Health is signed up to rent the entire first 22 story building. That's why it's phase 1 and being built. Currently, the other phases seem more uncertain. It's a great spot for office space, though, and Tishman seems pretty gung ho about their giant piece of land, so it's probably only a matter of time. A ton of hotels have also popped up in the area that will support the needs of businesses there as well (they are currently tourist traps from what I can tell, although when I lived on RI, I put my parents up in LIC since it was so convenient).

Isn't there a new hotel planned for this area? (It's on CetraRuddy.com.)

Funny.

I looked on the Starwood website and noted that the hotel, which is pretty
nice, will be on the other side of Queens Blvd.

Ugh...deadly dull, sterile, glass box(es). Give me back the grit.

Will this even have retail or are we going to have an urban office park?
