Depends on the time of day. If there's no rush hour traffic, half an hour.

If you're going to stay at the Hotel New Yorker and are traveling alone, consider the air train to Penn Station, an easy walk to the hotel. You'll save money, and the train is not too slow.

There is a bus that will take you from Newark to midtown for $13.00 :

Newark Airport Express (http://www.olympiabus.com/)

The bus leaves from Newark Airport and from five stops within Manhattan approximately every 15 to 30 minutes from 4 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. A one-way trip takes from 45 to 60 minutes and costs $13. Roundtrip is $22. Children under 16 ride free!

Manhattan departure and arrival stops include Grand Central Terminal, Penn Station, Port Authority Bus Station, Chinatown, and Lower Manhattan. A hotel shuttle is available for midtown destinations (additional $4 fee). .
