Hello all,
Yippee...I AM coming over this year...the world is suddenly a better place...Ill be there hopefully for when the Yankees get their shot at the World Series (he he....)....anyway everyone, having just looked at one of my previously favourite hotels on tripadvisor.com the place is now infested with bed bugs, so Im looking for help finding a fairly priced hotel preferably nearish Times Square or 34th.....we used to stay at the Howard Johnson before it changed hands and we wont be going there again now! Red Roof on 32nd was last Octobers choice and it was alright but just wondered if anyone could suggest anywhere else.
Note to Brooklyn Rider, I sent my donation in post as promised, hope got there okay.

Thanks!
There are lots of Marriott Courtyards in the city now and a number of Hilton Garden Inns. They represent a more budget conscious end of those two chains.
The Royalton on West 43rd is nice. The Beekman Hotel up on 74th & Broadway used to have some great rates.
You can look in the Financial district (like the Marriott or Millennium) to see if they have bargains.
There's new Marriott expansion opening in downtown Brooklyn, just across the Brooklyn Bridge and near all subways - they often offer cut rates for grand opening to woo new visitors.

How about The Edison? I've always found the rooms & rates to be decent & you can't beat the location.

I think you might mean the Beacon. Less of a bargain than in days of yore, but still an excellent place to stay.

Thanks both. Ive been looking at a little place in Greenwich, but please keep the suggestions coming in....I have also looked at the Howard Johnson in Brooklyn, but Im not sure about being there, mainly because if the Yankees do get to the World Series I wont be going to every game but my partner will so I will have time to wander on my ownsome at times.....I know Midtown really well but not Brooklyn so much. I cant believe how bad the reviews were for our old hotel (previously the Howard Johnson on 34th) apparenlty it was on one of your shows (Dateline?) as an undercover investigation! I dont come to New York for the hotel but I dont come to be eaten by bugs and spend all the time whimping out at mice either!
More suggestions please guys, all appreciated!

We stayed at the Milford plaza (think it's on 42nd & 8th avenue) in february,we thought it a great budget hotel, our room wasn't particularly small, the security was tip top,one block to Times square, walk north from the hotel you soon get to central park, walk south seven(I think)streets and you're at Madisson sq gardens. The bars and restaurants of Hells kitchen are directly over the road!!We booked through Expedia uk.
Hope that helps.
