Cruise Ship Freedom of the Seas Sets Sail Across the Atlantic
After four days of showing off in the homeport of Queen Mary 2, the new world's largest cruise ship set off on its first trans-Atlantic crossing May 3rd en route to its official naming ceremony in New York.

Freedom of the Seas, which at 158,000 tons dethroned QM 2 as the world's biggest passenger vessel, wound up the European phase of its show-and-tell tour and will now spend a week in the North Atlantic with just crew aboard before resuming preview cruises in the United States.

The ship will sail into New York Harbor on May 10th and dock at the Cape Liberty Cruise Port in Bayonne, NJ.

On the morning of May 12th, the day of her formal dedication, Freedom will anchor in New York Harbor off the Statue of Liberty while NBC's Today show broadcasts live from the ship.

That afternoon, Freedom will sail up the Hudson and dock at the old West Side cruise terminal -- which Royal Caribbean no longer uses -- so residents of Manhattan can get a close up view of the ship.

After a couple more preview cruises out of Cape Liberty, Freedom of the Seas will set sail for Boston on May 18th and remain there until May 22nd, when she will depart for her regular homeport of Miami.

Freedom will make several additional preview cruises out of Miami before commencing regular cruises on June 4th.

For the balance of the year, she will sail seven-night Western Caribbean itineraries from Miami with port calls Cozumel, Mexico; George Town, Grand Cayman; Montego Bay, Jamaica; and Royal Caribbean's private destination, Labadee, Hispaniola.
