Anyone know of a place that rents jet skis? When spring gets here, I was thinking it would be interesting to take the camera gear on a jet ski and get some good shots of the shoreline, small inlets, etc. that would be tough or impossible to get from something like the Circle Line. Anyone ever taken a jet ski around Manhattan before?
Thanks,
Bill Schroeder

I'm pretty sure there aren't any rentals. I imagine the insurance would be too high.

Bill, a kayak is the best way to go for that kind of photography. If you go to the "downtown boathouse" located at clinton cove (59th street) park: that is a good place to ask about such arrangements.
Also, if you get in contact we me (via PM) I may be able to take you out on the water myself - you can rent a kayak from one of the local outfitters.

I've seen kayaks out on the Hudson and East Rivers and in Newtown Creek. I don't have any experience in a kayak and don't want to see my camera gear swimming with the fishes, so I don't think it's a good idea to float around by myself. Are there two person kayaks and how quickly can kayaks travel from, say, North Brother Island to Red Hook?
Thanks,

Bill, as said: go to the "Downtown boathouse" and you will get all the info you need. There are single and double kayaks there that you can try out for free.
Also, you can take a group trip from 59th street to Governers Island (also free) to get an idea of what a trip of that distance will take.
Even if you go by jetski you will need to make some special provisions for the camera gear. Good luck - and have fun.
