My question is. If you are in Midtown Manhattan, what is the best way to get to rikers island? I have been constantly searching for Subway and Bus directions but still I find nothing. I heard Rikers Island has more than just a jail, is that true?

Im a locations scout for a film company and I recently had to go to Rikers to scout it and its so locked down. Its an island ofcourse and you cannot cross the bridge to the island without an escort or personal business or are incarcerated. No tourists at all. no museums, no welcome center. nothing. you can only look at the island from across the channel. Which sucks because the building I scouted was empty and was a turn of the century prison hall. massive. Its the generic one they always rent out to law and order and to local movies. it honestly was a beautiful building. so short answer, you got no chance of visiting
