I wont explain my situation read the recent pages of gehry in brooklyn for that, basicly im here for another month and a half and ive seen all the obvious famous big name architecture. what i want to know is where are all the less well known maybe small more subtle pieces of beautiful architecture you only discover by walking round the city. an example is something i discovered on 45th near times square was a passage between two buildings which had a wall with water cascading over it with a tube stuck through the wall which allowed people to walk through the wall of water as it were, so stuff like that please much appreciated!!!

Here's about the least known big name architecture in what is otherwise a tight space. Its the only other Frank Lloyd Wright work in New York City and I’ll bet even on this forum few know it exists. Its the Mercedes-Benz Showroom at 56th Street and Park Avenue.

Yes. You want architecture though, be sure to check out the Cloister's before you leave NYC.

Take the Tram to Roosevelt Island. If they have left the gate open on the southern tip of the island that day, you can wander around and even through the ruins of the old sanitarium (or whatever it was), currently populated only by a gaggle of cranky geese. It is an eerily peaceful place. Even if the gate is locked, the Tram ride itself is kind of cool.

Also, Morningside Park, which when I used to live by it was a haven for drug dealers, is now one of the nicest parks in all of NYC. It is a cliffside park that runs along the eastern edge of Columbia's campus, between 110th and 120th Streets. It is way cool.

One of my favorites is the incredible Deco red-tiled lobby of the Bank of NY (formerly Irving Trust Co.).

If you're in that area it's definitely worth a look:

one of my most favorite architecture in the city is that of the St Patrick's Cathedral. It is beautifull inside and out. Also Grand Central is beautifull. This city is full of those.
