As a skyscraper fan, obviously I love buildings because of their design but also Height. It seems that NY is really lacking behind other countries in terms of height for now just because they have so much ego in China and Dubai, But do you think they will ever die down to what NY is now and Do you think NY could ever have a building higher than 90 floors again?

I keep getting mixed messages from the westside development, that either it IS suitable for Supertalls and some that it's not.

What are your thoughts on all this?

I think it's generally considered fact that buildings higher than 80 floors lose their efficiency as an investment for the builder, and as you allude, after 80 it becomes all about ego and looking for the WTB distinction.

Developing countries are surpassing us with Supertalls as they need to to announce their "arrival" on the world economy. That announcement was made a long time ago for the USA.

But Big Egos migrate to NYC, always have, always will. Some Egomaniac will reach for the sky in the next 20 years or so, and we'll see a Supertall again, IMO.

NYC will see sporatic tall buildings because of its stringent zoning laws.

But with the WTC's elevator style, I can see 100 being practical. Also, why do office floors have to be so high up? Why can't it be 12 ft per floor?

Office floors can't be lower than 13 feet today.

Stern, What about the Westside sites, they are large, and the con Ed, I belive that's zoned for quite a bit, along with the WTC obviously.
