41 murders in Jan. I think that's good, right? I'll have to see what 2004 was. Of course, it's cold, etc., but straight avg'd out that would be only 492 murders. That would be amazing.

There were 572 murders last year, another record low. The 41 murders in January this year was a 17% decline from January last year, when New York had an even worse snowstorm. So I don't think it's about the cold.
According to the CompStat figures for the week of February 7th to February 13th, murders are down roughly 12% from last year to date.
