What has happened to Alphabet City? I know gentrification hit aves. A & B how bad are C&D. Many new coffee shops and boutiques have popped up in the neighborhood and it looks much better than it did 15 years ago. Is it safe walking at night also why is there not a subway line or station throughout this area?

Not sure how safe it really is, but I go out on Ave C around 7th st. without any fear.

here's the precinct's crime stats (located on Ave C)

I live in the east village, and yes it is safe to walk at night. Generally the farther east you go to the river the less you want to walk alone late at night. But there are lots of people out on the weekends here so it usually isn't a problem.

I was there about 6 months ago and was quite surprised at how A&B were so clean and safe. I partied on ave B and 11th right around Tompkins square park, walked around 2am and did not feel insecure at all. Still allot of graffiti on the walls along with murals from days gone by. Hard to believe this area was such a mess even 10 years ago.

I did not go out to Aves C& D so I don’t know how safe they are. I drove around them during the day and could see they were more rundown and blighted then A&B. More vacant lots and community gardens!

Yuppies taking over, where do we find the low income housing now?
