I want you to help me!

Short introduction: I'm a 17-year-old student from Germany.
I know, it might sounds a little bit wired (hey, but that's wirednewyork.com, so I'll try it) but I'm searching for people who live in New York and who would like to tell me some of their stories. Here is the explaination: I'm doing a special school project (a whole year long) about the theme: "New York - melting pot of different cultures". I will travel to New York next year to get the right image of the city and its different places of immigrants but I'm also searching for people who would like to tell me their story. People who came to New York in the past (from a foreign country) and people who live in a part of New York where a lot of foreigners live (e.g. the Italian part, the Chinese corner....). If you have a good story to tell (and if you like to, of course), I would be very happy if you would tell it to me. I want to use it for my school project but don't worry: If you don't want to, I won't use your name! I'm no crazy idiot (just a desperate student), so I won't use it for something illegal or whatever. I want to build up my project on personal opinions (Maybe you have to say something about the situation of foreigners in New York?! Do it!) and personal experiences. I hope, this encouraged you a little bit and I'm waiting for responses! Thanks for your attention!

Yours,
Missy.

That can be interesting. Sounds like a nice project.

Yeah, it definitely is. But I'm still searching for volunteers who contact me. I don't want to write something without really asking the people who live in New York. I want real comments and stories and nothing faked I invented by myself.

I'd be happy to share the story of how my family got to New York.

They owned a farm in Coney Island at the turn of the century - where Fred Trump built his high rise condos. My great grandfather owned a sand and gravel firm that helped build the subway system. Could be interesting...

Could be interesting...

Definitely! It'll be good if you would write an E-Mail to me (have a look in my profile). I guess that it's a private story so it would be better if you write a mail to me. I'm really interested!

I know that it's a little bit unfair but I need to push this topic to the top again. Okay, no one wants to help me. Well, maybe I need to start by myself: I am a girl (17 3/4 years old) from Germany who wants to move to New York in 2 years (after finishing school and a short time of preparation). I'm doing this project to publish my admiration for the big apple and its inhabitants. I got a suggestion that this forum would be good for finding people who'd like to support me and my one-year-task. Now I'm a little bit disappointed that no one wants to fulfill this claim. I tried to motivate you, I tried to attract you with the fact that you would become an immortal part of the history of my school (I'm the first one who trust herself enough to do a project in English). I offered you the possibility to tell me your story or opinion about the situation of foreigners in NYC nowadays. What more can I do?! Okay, now it's up to you! Don't force me to quote this famous Beatles song! (Help, I need somebody's help.... sh*t  whatever)
I never beg but I don't know another breath-taking, admirable, English forum about NYC like Wired New York! Sorry for getting on your nerves!

Missy-
I'll help if I can. I'm an Australian (does that count as foreign?) who has lived here for 3 years, married a native, etc. We live in the Italian section of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. Very nice area. My wife is half Armenian- some scary stories there of how here family escaped the Armenian genocide.
Let me know if I can be of help.

Miss Liberty,

Perhaps you'll find some success here: http://www.straphangers.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php

I presume this type of message would best be placed in "The Mezzanine" category. There are plenty of folks there who love to share stories about themselves and this city.

Try also: http://brooklynboard.com/msghome.html
"The Brooklyn Message Board", for opinions of Brooklynites who also have a penchant for native talk.

Good Luck!
