The First New York International Photographic Art Exposition

PHOTO NEW YORK 2004 will be held October 14 - 17 at the Metropolitan Pavilion, located at 125 W. 18th Street, and will feature contemporary photo-based work of unprecedented ingenuity, as well as exceptional pieces from leading 19th and 20th century artists. More than 40 premier galleries and private dealers representing artists from the United States and every corner of the globe will be on display at PHOTO NEW YORK 2004. Confirmed exhibitors to date include New York galleries: Ethan Cohen Fine Art, Foley Gallery, lyonswiergallery, Hamburg Kennedy Projects+Photographs and European galleries: OMC, Galerie Poller. Highlights of the exhibition will include works by Tseng Kwong Chi, Lauren Greenfield, Vic Muniz, Graciella Sacco, James Nachtwey, Ralph Eugene Meatyard, Francesca Woodman, and Ansel Adams.
"We are expecting a strong response for this exciting new event on both a local and international level from collectors, art enthusiasts and novices alike," says Stephen Cohen, owner of the Stephen Cohen Gallery and producer of PHOTO NEW YORK 2004. “With the wonderful line-up of exhibitors and art pieces to be featured at PHOTO NEW YORK 2004, we believe that the event will soon become touted as one of the most prestigious annual art events in the city.”
The Stephen Cohen Gallery was opened in 1992 and moved to its present location in 1995. Since its inception, the Gallery has exhibited vintage and contemporary photography and photo-based art from the United States, Europe and South America. As host gallery for photo l.a., photo san francisco and PHOTO NEW YORK, the gallery has helped to expand the awareness of photography as an art form to be appreciated by experienced art collectors and enthusiasts.More than 40 premier galleries and private dealers representing artists from the United States and every corner of the globe will be on display at photo new york 2004. Highlights of the exhibition will include works by Tseng Kwong Chi, Lauren Greenfield, Vic Muniz, Graciella Sacco, James Nachtwey, Ralph Eugene Meatyard, Francesca Woodman, and Ansel Adams.
In conjunction with the exhibition, a lecture series will also take place on Saturday, October 16 in the upstairs gallery of the Metropolitan Pavilion with special speaking engagements by acclaimed artists including Larry Fink and Joel-Peter Witkin, in addition to a panel sponsored by the George Eastman House, NYC Collectors Club entitled The Evolution of Photography in Print.
