Just curious, where do you take these from?

Low flying helicopter. No, wait, just kidding :D It's from my apartment's window.

Nice pictures! One comment I sometimes hear from tourists who have visited the Empire State Building's observation deck is that, unexpectedly, a flurry of roof activity throughout the city can be seen from there.

Nice photos, But the only thing I don't like about roof tops is that someone may close and lock the door on me and there will be no way for me to get back inside. Short of having a cell phone to call for help, I would have to jump off the roof, but my bones may not like it.

Have a nice day all.

Just to let you know Edward, and I know these pictures were posted a while back, but I'm completely jealous of your view.

Anyone have recent pictures of people on their roofs after the nice weather NYC has been having?

Not residential, but still roofs.

Can someone identify where this is, please (I know it'll be obvious once I know).

Thanks for the link, Benniest.

^Looking south down 8th Avenue from West 21st Street. The highest crane in the distance (center) is atop the infamous Trump Soho. The patch of green where 8th Avenue vanishes into the background is Abington Square, visible just to the left of the huge former Port Authority Building.

Thanks very much for the info, MK. Mmm, maybe not so obvious, though (to me). I wouldn't have picked it. I was trying to work out what that tall building on the left is as a reference point.

Take a look at my first blog post using the new Wired New York Wordpress platform - Sunbathing on the Roofs of New York (http://wirednewyork.com/2009/08/sunbathing-roofs-of-new-york/).

You can make comments - just as you expect from a blog - although it's a different membership system from the forum.

These are some great pictures! I have to say though some of the roofs are pretty ugly...and some are really nice when they have gardens that are well taken care of. Come to think about it, "As above, so below"...

Those last two are sheer art. They convey a gritty sense of badassery that NYC has lost in recent decades due to "Disneyfication".

Those shots are The Warrior's New York.

It would be a badass project for a residential roof addition to evoke our water towers (rather than mobile homes).

Almost what I had in mind. Imagine seeing these lit up drums throughout the skyline.

Love Them All!
And in this neighborhood all 47 of 'em look
better than the ugly brick boxes they keep surrounding
them with, on all the new (hideous) construction in the area;)

I watched my first sex act from my SoHo window. It was a young couple on a rooftop. It was around '79. It changed me, I tell ya.

Mondrian Soho has risen at the left in that ^ photo (where the blue netting and scaffolding can be seen). Gehry Beekman now obscures 60 Wall Street and neighbors (at center).

Crossing 14th St walking up 8th Avenue has to be the most jarring introduction to the street grid. I always wish for the village to continue north a little more.
