Hi there!

I'm new to this forum but I think it's a great one!

I enjoy photography as a hobby. Last year, I was in New York City and wanted to capture the Manhatten skyline in the background with the Brooklyn bridge in the foreground. Unfortunately, despite walking around quite a bit, I couldn't figure out a good spot.

I might be visiting New York again some time next month and would really like to try my luck again.

This is the classic shot I'm talking about:

Could someone please tell me where the above "postcard" shot was taken and how I can get there? Is it generally safe to travel there at dusk?

I would also appreciate it if anyone could tell me if there is a good vantage point to capture Times Square. I noticed there were lots of barriers along the road which would not look nice in a photo. This is what I'm talking about:

This one's not bad though:

Thanks a lot for any tips!

Dave

You might try one of these for a vantage point:

Climb to the top of the Red Stairs at Father Duffy Square (47th)

Upstairs atthe Olive garden (47th)

The Marriott Hotel (45th / 46th) has a rotating bar on the sixth (?) floor that overlooks TS

Get yourself into the MTV studios at 1515 Braodaway (45th) and work your way out onto the roof deck

Go into the new Walgreens in the old Times Square Tower and ride the escalator up a few floors (42nd)

Book a room in the hotel that rises above the Palace Theater (47th)

Get a blimp and float overhead
