So I've been planning to move into a studio for a while now and I've finally found the place I want but unlike nearly every other apartment I've had in this city, heat and hot water aren't included in the rent. I need to factor this cost into my monthly expenses before I agree to sign the lease but I honestly have no clue how much the average heat and hot water costs on a studio in New York would run. It's just me in the apartment and I rarely crank up the heat. Any help on a range would be much appreciated.

Is the Hot Water heated by a oil-burning boiler?
Or is HW heated by gas or electric HW Heaters?
You'd have to be a bit clairvoyant to accurately figure the Price of NYS Home Heating Oil (http://www.nyserda.org/energy_information/nyepc.asp), which is much lower now than it was a year ago -- but currently higher than the price 10 years ago.

It's gas heating as far as I can tell. Like I said, even a very basic estimate would help. I literally have zero clue what it could run me as in my entire New York life I've only had to pay electricity apart from the rent.
