Anyone have any good or bad experience with Mega bus? Didn't really see a thread on it so i figured I'd start this one for people to discuss it.

They do NYC to Philly, DC, Boston, Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo and Toronto runs...

I got a few round trip tickets for the end of the month for the end of the month from the eastview mall in victor ny (their "rochester" stop) to NYC and gonna try to set up some interviews and hope fully get up to some fun.

I set up the trips so if I wanted I could just go down and back 12 hours later if I was going for an iterview as well as buying a ticket for a week later in case I wanted to stay the week.

I got a pretty good price!!! I feel like megabus lost the bet on this one. lol

My job may be going bye bye up here soon  because of teh economy so I need something to look forward to thi month besides losing my job. :D

A friend of mine used Boltbus (https://www.boltbus.com/) recently and she loved it. Aparentely they are brand new buses, with clean bathrooms and have wifi aboard. I think I am going to try it out soon and take a day trip to DC.

Just keep peak traffic hours in mind when booking, from the perspective of arrival and departure times... I took Boltbus from NYC to Boston over the summer. Left NY at 3:30PM, and it took us 6.5 hours to get to Boston because we hit such horrible traffic leaving the city.

That sounds like WONDERFUL traffic! ;)

Yes, the worst areas you have to time for NY/Boston are NY, Hartford and Boston. If you do not hit that 5-7 block on any of the three you should be (fairly) clear.

So no one wants to take megabus or boltbus to DC the day of the inauguration?:D I heard this is going to be a logistics nightmare in DC with so many people and so many coach and charter buses coming in... Terrible ride for anyone who dares to take the trip, but I bet a nice paycheck for the boltbus and megabus drivers as they sit in standstill traffic in DCfor hours.

Thanks for the tip, I already booked the tickets, mainly around the time so I wouldn't have to get to the mall so early in the morning but still arrive in NYC at a fairly decent time. I have to look at the times I'm getting in and keep what you said in mind if I tried to set up any interviews shortly after I arrived...

i just used megabus this week to go to NYC and back. service was quite good.

left toronto at 7pm sharp, arrived at the US border where customs took maybe 20-25min because of questioning and then checking each persons luggage. thankfully, the bus only had 15 or so people on board.

changed drivers at buffalo bus terminal where he asked us if we wanted a break in 30min or 2 hours. since no one really spoke up he just said that we'll do both. made a quick 10-15 min stop at the 2 service areas and the usual stops at buffalo airport, rochester and syracuse. arrived a few min early into NYC (around 5:25am). btw, this was on one of the coach canada buses which are a bit older and don't have a lot of leg room or great suspension i find.

on the way back to toronto, it was a megabus branded double-decker bus. left 15min late out of NYC at 9:45pm. this bus has a bit more legroom, better seats and suspension overall. i was also able to get free wifi with good speeds. but because it is a double-decker, you can easily bump your head when walking to the washroom or out of the bus. got to CDN customs a bit late (6:15am) but left pretty quickly considering there were a bunch of people on the bus.

we left at 6:30am and got into toronto around 8:30am which is pretty good considering that we drove through a snow storm in new york and then hit rush hour traffic in toronto.

since i only paid 17$ round trip, i'm quite happy with the service and will definitely be taking it agian.

Megabus (http://www.busjunction.com) is pretty good. Definitely one of the better Chinatown bus lines. The other is Bolt Bus (http://www.busjunction.com). They're solid also.
