NYS resident or not?

My husband is Army and from March 06- April 08 we lived in upstate NY. For state tax purposes I am trying to figure out whether to claim as a full, part time, or non resident of NYS. Our state taxes still go to NY even now.

If you are no longer here you are now a non resident. The two times I had to file duo state taxes while in NYC were a nightmare. I suggest professional help.

I had to go through this also. Its very confusing. One question asked: What would describe your situation on the 31 Dec, Moving into NY or moving out of NY. Of course my answer was neither as I didnt happen to be moving on that particular day. Very stupid. Of course I had to pick one of them even though neither was true.
