Usually they put up barriers with safety tape on the sidewalk.

This problem with ice falling from skyscrapers is not just in NYC, but also in Boston and Chicago and Cleveland, etc. Last year in Toronto, ice fell from CN Tower, forcing "authorities" to close Front Street.

The barricades don't bring much comfort to those on the street, but I see them every year in places that have density and experience ice formation on their taller buildings.

There is a ice reducing window being touted in trade papers of late, and I have never followed up on details.

Gosh is that it!!

So its not really something that you worry about ?

Would this be why a lot of the buildings have a covered area over the exit to guide people away from the vertical walls

The chances of my getting hit with falling ice are probably the same as winning the lotto. ;)
