hi

besides Ikea, where would you suggest to go, in order to save money but at the same time buy something worth? couch/sofa/lamps/coffe table/dinner table/etc. I imagine for bed the best is Sleepy's, right?

all the area around 18th/Union square/etc if I dont fail has many furniture stores. Which is the one you'd recommend?

I remember when I asked about sport stuff someone here suggested Paragon sport, and that was excellent. Something similar for furniture?

thanks in advance

we got our love seat at MDC furniture -- I've seen some bad reviews for customer service, but they were fine to us.

The coffee table was a hand-me-down that I refinished, which takes a weekend and isn't that hard -- if I was looking for a table at this point, I'd probably haunt craigslist or a big thrift shop like housing works (not far from you) and refinish something.

CB2 is excellent for apartment-scale furniture:

The style seems a bit 1970's meets scandanavian modern.

What is your transportation situation? NJ has a LOT of furnature stores about 20 minutes or so from teh city by either the GWB or Lincoln Tunnel.

The only difficult thing is, as we have found, finding stuff that will fit up the stairs. But every so often you find a sale at Macys, Ashley, or even Ethan Allen ($$) that is worth picking up.

I would look to Craigs first though. There are plenty of cheapies on there, but if you are looking for better, there are some good finds (aswe have found, people do not want to pay a lot for anything on Craigs, even if it is worth a lot. Anyone want a cherrywood mission-style entertainment unit??? ;) ).

BTW, FWIW, we found that microfiber is a comfy fabrick that resists stains nicely. It also does not jump out at you if you choose the right color. Only downside is that it does grab hair, but the cats have been fine with it (not scratching at all!).
