After being captivated by a photo of Straus Park from the wonderful book, The Light of New York (http://www.amazon.com/Light-New-York-Andre-Aciman/dp/275940174X/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1225003564&sr=1-1), containing 60 beautiful black and white photos, all taken at dawn by Jean-Michel Berts, I was prompted to find out about this park.
I highly recommend this book. My favourite photo is a view of Manhattan Bridge from Brooklyn Bridge Park. There's also a great view of the Terminal Building and Starrett-Lehigh Building. The word ethereal came to mind immediately when I was quickly flicking through it at the bookstore, and the photography is indeed so described on the inside flap of the dust cover.

What a gorgeous, welcoming and user-friendly little oasis it is.
