Receltly moved to NY and enjoying it all.

Telling a dear friend from the south how incredible New York Is.

He keeps saying "Hey man, Remember I grew up in Memphis, so big Cities don't impress me."

I keep telling him THERE IS JUST ONE NEW YORK, nothing is like it! Not Memphis for sure.

Can anyone give me some size, population comparisons? Sites, statistics etc. where I can let him see DIS AIN'T MEMPHIS

Try this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_United_States_cities_by_population) wikipedia page for starters.

Comparing NYC to some place liek Shanghai, Tokyo, London, Boston or even Chicago might be a little easier than Memphis.

NYC was just built differently. And its location on an island made the construction, for the most part, much more compact (and tall).

So, I am not saying that your friend will LIKE NYC more than Memphis, but saying the two are similar enough to discount one because you have been to the other just does not cut it.

Be warned though. BECAUSE NYC is so large, it is hard to get "everything" in on one short trip. There are area I have not been to yet and I have been working here for 12 years (and interning before that). I love areas like the West Village, and some spots on the East Village, but I am not crazy about Midtown.

And yesterday, driving back home at about 4 along the West Side Highway, you would be amazed at the combination of urban development, and the sheer presence of trees and nature (driving up an on-ramp with the sun over the hudson, the trees all around and changiong color, it was a very weird and beautiful hybridization).

NYC is just TOO big to be able to be "seen" by going anywhere else but NYC.

And remember Queens is part of NYC, they have some nice areas by the beach, if your into that.
I mean its no Hamptons but Breezy Point and Rockaway Point have nice communities by the sea.
It really is amazing the size of nyc and what you can do.
