scumonkey, that Phantom Cart is the best Dali I've seen. So small, so delicate. Early Dali, I believe. As I recall, it's actually a bit less yellow than in that reproduction --more greenish.

Huntington Hartford Museum (2 Columbus Circle) had a very impressive collection of monumental late works. Though big and skilfully composed, they didn't add up to this tiny gem. Of all paintings I've seen, this is the one I'd most like to own.

To look at it every day.

Theyre all about the dream state arent they (and thus a diatribe to the alternative - disillusionment with the politics of reality)? The inner, primaeval emtions as a foil to the measured coldness of theory.

I always felt threatened by his work. To me it seemed as if there was an underlying danger, some sort of threat hidden in every stroke. I enjoy them due to their unsettling nature.
