I'm talking mainly about the modern remake on the Sci-Fi channel.
http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/
Are there any fans here? Last night was the season finale, I would love to discuss ideas such as the human/cylon arrival at what seems to be Earth and the identity of the final fifth cylon.
This is quality storytelling, would any other enthusiasts like to share their thoughts on this amazing series?

I've been a fan of BOTH!
Good news for you....
Last night was NOT the season finale!;):D
It was what they call the MID season finale.
The final episodes of the series begin to air in January 2009 (http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_tv/2008/06/battlestars-fin.html) (Oh noooo! Why must we wait so long?)

I'm so glad there's another fan here.:D
I guess I didn't know what to call last night but yes, I can't wait until January to see what happens. I can't believe they're going to keep us waiting on this.
I have a very good friend at Sci-Fi Channel so I've been pestering him for information. He says they're currently working on the special that will be called Caprica. I read a preliminary script. But my lips are sealed. I'll just say you get the story of how the cybernetic lifeforms came to be and a bit about the origin of the monotheistic religion the cylons follow as well as how life was among the 12 Colonies.
Now about last night's episode...OMG:eek: I never expected that to be what they find when they reach "Earth". The ruins certainly looked like NYC from next to the Brooklyn Bridge but could probably be something else if the writers want to throw a curve ball. Do you remember in the old series when they found a planet resembling Earth called Terra but it wasn't actually Earth. Could be similar? Or, that is truly a devastated Earth that they've found. What would be next? So anticlimactic it seems. I am truly confounded as to where the writers will take this.
I'm going to miss this show so much. Number Six is so bad ass. Lucy Lawess as Number Eight too. I'll never forget the episode where she came on board posing as a journalist and ended up being a cylon in the final scene.
What has also impressed me is the casting of the show. How perfect is Olmos as Adama! First Season I was skeptical, remebering Lorne Green but he quickly won me over. I have seen some amazing acting out of Olmos.Of course, President Roslyn is amazing too.

First Off....
I HATE Sci Fi channel!
This show got caught up in it's nasty politics, and I'm glad
the Executuve Producer Ronald D. Moore decided to finish the series and actually write the final episode himself!
Since that decision, the entertainment quality went way over the top, and I've been on the edge of my seat all season!
Sci fi always kills a decent program in it's fourth season,
(so it can't go into syndication). The way they change airing nights, time slots, split seasons up by more than 6 months..it's outrageous!
But no mistaking it.... this show is the fosnizzle!
The special effects alone are as good or better than any movie (IE: scar warps, star trudge, etc.), I've ever seen.
It took me awhile to adjust to the character changes but
I've come to like this casting MUCH better than the original.
I am also glad that this series has so closely followed the original in a much updated way.
Yes they did find a false earth in the first series but, I think in this incarnation the bombed out earth is EARTH.
A little too planet of the apes for my tastes but I'll hold back judgment until I see what happens next.
Hell it's always possible to travel through a time warp or something to change that scorched planet scenario right
In the original they (apollo and starbuck) also ran into angles as well- they talk about them in this show so who knows?!
Also in the original series they DID find earth (as it was in the 70's).
And had a spin off show about their integration into our
society. The gravity here is much less as well as the oxygen
content of the air much greater - giving them super human strength:rolleyes:
As far as the final unknown of the 12.....what are your thoughts?
I think it would be great if it turned out to be Lee!
I've also read about the new series...supposed to be based around Adamas' family members if I remember correctly...can't wait!

Great!! It was my favorite show. Did you watch all the seasons? The ending was amazing...when they reached the "real" Earth and came across nomadic homo sapiens I was loving it. This is one of the best TV series of all time.

Have you seen the premier of Caprica...(the new prequel)?!
It fits in quite well.
It explains how the cylons got invented, 58 years before the events seen in Battlestar Galactica - many special effects, with terrorism bombings etc... I can't wait for the TV series- but it wont air until January 2010!
It's for sale on DVD (but it's an easy Free download):D

I watched it all! I loved the ending I thought it was great. I found myself realising how gorgeous this planet is after watching 4 seasons on a spaceship! I was visually stunned.
How can they show a premier of a season that isnt out until next year!!! Its torture!

Confession: I cried at the end when Adama buried Roslyn on Earth. I really loved both of their characters and the chemistry between them.

Having no must-watch show is a little disappointing. I'm hoping maybe Caprica will be good?

Interesting, Im not sure Ill watch that one though. Im happy with how the series ended.
I also noticed an ad for Stargate:Atlantis. 5 seasons!!! Its probably the worst acted, written piece of garbage on TV!

Sci- fi channel always buys a decent show, prematurely sucks it dry,
Claim they can't afford to continue it's production,
(even though it's their highest rated program, and largest cash cow- remember Farscape?),
and use the money they made, to do another resurrected season of said
"worst acted, written piece of garbage on TV!"
With Battlestar, the intelligent writers ended it prematurely to stop Sci- fi from killing it off
with their erratic scheduling, internal bickering and, money siphoning ways...
They wanted it to end on a high note and not be dragged to death,
with half seasons widely spaced out, till no one would care anymore
Good for them!

I tend to prefer that shows dont run too long. 4 seasons is a good number. Not too long not too short and most important it came to a non ambiguous end!

What you may fail to realize....
For a show to get syndicated, it must have 5 seasons.
Sci -Fi kills all their programs (except star crap),
so they can have complete control over them,
and never let them be seen again, on any other channel- ever
They also have the annoying habit of only showing half a season,
then waiting months and months before showing the other half,
and dragging the show out over a long number of unnecessary years,
killing the momentum of the story.:(

That sucks. I 'borrowed' all of Galactica from the internet so I didnt help the Sci-Fi channel machine.
scumonkey
June 27th, 2009, 01:01 PM
Although I watched it on TV,
I "borrowed" it as well ;)
It really is much more fun to be able to watch
it in big chunks, allowing the storyline to keep it's "edge"
and momentum!
