The Facts:
Due to a series of unsuccessful legal maneuverings, Bird Paradise attempted to prevent ROAR and MFA from educating the public about their facility.

Bird Paradise enlisted a lawyer to attempt to stop protesting their business, but thanks to the ACLU (who provided legal representation to both ROAR and MFA), they have the go-ahead to be there, along with the approval from Burlington City, NJ; the Burlington Police Dept; and the NJ Dept. of Transportation; all of whom were dragged into the lawsuit (which has now been dropped) and forced to pay legal fees in order to enforce our First Amendment rights.

Please know that the ACLU representation was free, and anyone who cares to donate can do so by logging on to http://www.aclu-nj.org or by sending a check to:

Thank you to the American Civil Liberties Union of New Jersey!!!
Please donate so that we can protect and preserve our First Amendment right to free speech and to peacefully demonstrate!

Please let Bird Paradise know that their intimidation techniques will not stop us! If you can’t be there, please write a letter to the local papers (Burlington County Times; Rachel will provide additional information) regarding your thoughts about breeding and selling “exotic” birds in order to profit from their captivity. Many die in transit, and those who live spend their lives in cramped cages, deprived of their natural instincts for socialization and flight. While Bird Paradise does mention that birds should be allowed “some time” outside of the cage, they boast having thousands of birds “in stock”, as well as 2500 cages for sale, with new babies “arriving” every day.

The ACLU will be issuing a press release on the outcome of the lawsuit, and we hope that this publicity will hopefully educate some people about the plight of these birds.

Additional letters to the media will help.

It is unfair and morally and ethically wrong for living creatures to be sold in the same way as a carpet or vacuum cleaner is. Birds are sentient creatures who must be freed from the constraints and restrictions of a cage and a human environment. They have a right to be free to live their lives as Nature intended, free to live among their own species in the wild where they belong. If you love birds, please give them that right.

Thank you to all those who support birds in their quest for a better life. Birds cannot speak, they only mimic what they hear. We are their voice, and caring people their only hope.
