I live in Chicago, the greatest city in America. And in each time I visited NYC, I was thoroughly disgusted with what I saw. The city is crowded, dirty, and unsafe. There is garbage piling up on every street corner in Manhattan, and yes, I've even seen people urinate on the streets.
The housing in NYC is also vastly inferior to Chicago. In the past ten years, Chicago has seen more high rise luxury apartments go up than any city, including NYC. While Chicago is modern and hip, apartments in Manhattan are old ugly dilapidated brown buildings that belong in a third world country. Most of Manhattan is terribly ugly.
NYC is also unsafe. While Chicago got rid of the housing projects, Manhattan still has them in areas like lower east side, chelsea, lincoln center, and upper east side. As a result, violent thugs roam the streets of Manhattan, waiting to terrorize innocent victims. NYC is a city where a guy would get punched out at a deli, while waiting to pay. I'm sure you guys saw that video. Unlike NYC, Chicago has thoroughly been gentrified. From the south loop all the way north to rogers park, the city is almost all white professionals who respect the law and keep the city clean.
It's amazing how overrated NYC is. The media glorifies the city with shows like sex and the city and gossip girl, but in reality, NYC is a declining city that makes people angry and miserable. It's a city where people pay $3K/month to live in a tiny cramped apartment with cockroaches. In short, Chicago's quality of life, as well as nightlife, are vastly superior to NYC.
