Planning a trip

Hello!!

I'm a huge NYC fan from São Paulo, Brazil, but I've never been there. My girlfriend and I are planning on tripping to NYC around 10th or 12th January 2009 and spend there 12-15 days. But we'd like to book the hotel in July, just to make sure.

Because we're far we don't know which hotels are good and which are not. Hope you guys can help us out:

We're looking for a hotel just to keep our things safe, a bed for 2 people and a private bathroom. This means: a cheap hotel! The location is not a great matter but we'd like some place near a subway just to make things easy.

Does somebody have any ideas?
