PATH, NJ Transit add trains for NY Giants' victory parade

by Joe Malinconico/The Star-Ledger Monday February 04, 2008, 4:14 PM

New York Giants fans, don't even think of driving into Manhattan Tuesday to watch the Super Bowl victory parade.

The Port Authority is doubling its midday PATH train service to World Trade Center, which will put fans a block from the parade route. New Jersey Transit is also adding extra cars to carry Giants fans into the city.

The parade, celebrating the team's shocking Super Bowl victory over the New England Patriots, will start Tuesday at 11 a.m. on Broadway at Battery Place and will follow a route north to Chambers Street. It ends with a ceremony at City Hall Plaza.

From 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., PATH trains will run every 7 to 8 minutes between Newark and Lower Manhattan and every six minutes between Hoboken and Lower Manhattan.

And the best way for many people to get to the Newark and Hoboken PATH stations would be to take NJ Transit trains. The North Jersey Coast, Northeast Corridor and Raritan Valley lines all have stops that connect with the PATH at Newark Penn Station. Meanwhile, the Morris and Essex, Montclair-Boonton, Pascack Valley and Bergen/Main lines go to Hoboken.

NJ Transit said this afternoon that it will add extra cars to selected late-morning trains on those lines Tuesday to accommodate fans going to the parade.

Another option would be to take NJ Transit trains into Midtown and then the subway down to the parade route, which runs along Broadway between Battery Place and Chambers Street.
