I'm trying to donate a used mattress to a charity, but after making a few phone calls this seems like a difficult task. The person at the salvation army told me that the city now requires organizations to have a permit to accept mattresses, but that he didn't know which ones would have the permit. Does anyone know of a local charity that accepts mattresses?

probably there's an anti-bedbug law that makes this difficult.
Call the Westchester Habitat for Humanity at 914-636-8335 and ask them if they would take it for Restore or if they know anybody who would.
Otherwise, I'd just put it on freecycle -- www.freecycle.org (http://www.freecycle.org)
