who is the best steakhouse in NYC ?

Don't know if it's the best, but they have been around for a while and have branches all over the states.
Depends how much you want to pay, and the surroundings you are looking for.

I'm sure there are a lot less expensive places.

Peter Luger is generally acknowledged as the best.

Yes, Rothmans is excellent. Sparks is also very good.

Another vote for Lugar's. Simple, straightforward, perfect.

For someplace fun and convenient, Angelo & Maxies.

Old Homestead has the best steak burgers.

Palm and Palm 2 has good steakburgers as well

Frankie & Johnnies (theatre district) is pretty good too. They have great butter.

my favorites in order are

- Sparks
- Palm and Palm 2
- Lugar's (my vote for best steakburgers but only available at lunch)
- Smith and Wollinski
