Help with salary requirements needed

Hello all,

maybe you could help me out with a slightly unusual question, or maybe know somebody who could, or know a place where to look it up.

The thing is, I am from, live and work in Germany. I just found a very exciting job offer in New York City that I would like to apply for. The job offer asks to state salary requirements which I know is common in the US.

Unfortunately beyond being aware of that and knowing that any salary probably would be considerably different from what I'm making now I'm at a loss.

Help?

It's position of developmental editor (textbooks) with a publisher of medical and scientific books and journals, requires a university degree and 2 years of previous experience in the area.

Any hints and suggestions on what to ask for, anything, rough guesses, or suggestions where to look for information would be very much appreciated!

try to avoid stating a number first. write something like "negotiable" and it will probably be OK. but if they press you for a number, you should be prepared. find out what average salaries (in NY) are for your position by asking around or by looking at sites like salary.com
