Hi Everyone
I am flying into JFK from Ireland Next tuesday but I am going to Ocean City Maryland. I am trying to find the best method of transport to Ocean City eg. Bus, private cab, trains, flights etc.

Ocean city dosnt seem to be a very accessible place in America. Can anyone help me as I am finding it incredibly difficult to get information.

I have a price of $240 for a private cab but this seems expensive to me.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated

Ocean City is a rather remotely-located beach resort town, without (as far as I can see) any rail or commercial airline access. There is scheduled (but not very frequent or fast) bus transportation between Manhattan's Port Authority Bus Terminal and OC (and there may be a "shuttle" directly serving JFK):
Regional Traveling – Washington DC – New York City
The easiest way unless you have a car is to use the Greyhound buses. In Ocean City MD, the Carolina Trailways Bus Terminal is located on 2nd Street. To save money on tickets, make sure you purchase your ticket at least 7 days in advance. All buses are air conditioned. Check www.greyhound.com (http://www.greyhound.com/) for bus schedules and fares.
Ocean City International Student Center located at 307 Baltimore Avenue (phone # 410-289-0350) and E-point Internet Café at 1513 N Philadelphia Ave (phone # 410-289-9844) provide trips for international students to various places of interest, e. g., Washington, D. C., Niagara Falls, Six Flags. Ask for more information in person at those locations.
Another service provided by Student Centers is an Airport Shuttle to JFK International Airport, New York, or Dulles International Airport, Washington, D. C. at a reasonable price. You will be taken straight to the airport terminal you are supposed to fly from so you do not have to worry about finding it. Usually, there will be a minimum passenger requirement of 6 students to rent this transportation to a regional airport. The price will be comparable to the use of the Greyhound or Trailways bus system and afford a faster trip to your destination in more comfort.http://atbinternetgroup.com/studentguide/english/transportation.asp (http://atbinternetgroup.com/studentguide/english/transportation.asp)

Rent a car at JFK, and drive. Cheap and easy compared with the alternatives. Also, the car will come in handy once you get there. The U.S. isn't friendly toward the car-less.

Yeah, if you can drive, you absolutely should rent a car. New York City is probably the only place in the country where it's better to not have a car than it is to have one, and Ocean City, Maryland is nowhere near New York City.

How did you end up flying in to NYC if that was your end destination?

Thanks for the info guys, I would rent a car its just even tho I have a full licence with 3 years and 4 years claims free driving I am under 21 by 2 months. This imposes a $100 a day surcharge on the car. Id be better off If i was a 21 year old that never sat into a car as you can get provisional licences in Ireland with no test.

I have however decided to go with the cab. There is 2 of us going, the bus from jfk to port authority is $18 and then a bus to OC is $60 and you must check in for that bus (thats new to me). So it will cost me $40 extra for the cab but its surely worth it to speed up the journey and avoid alot of hassle

Thanks again for the reply's guys:):):)

For all that trouble and cost, why don't you just switch your flight to something closer to Ocean City?

^like Washington. Also, from there you'd find more frequent and cheaper buses, I'm sure.

The flights cant be changed tho, to get a flight and then a bus when you take check in times for the flight it would probably end up cheaper and quicker.

Its a pity, when I was booking the flight the person I was meeting was staying in New York, if I knew it was oc i would have gone to phily where there is a connecting flight to salisbury. Oh well hopefully ill have a great holiday. Always wanted to visit the states.:)
